Forever Home!

It was cold, loud and unfamiliar, but this place was a step up from the last place Ollie lived. She at least had a bed and blanket this time. She was so tired when they came and got her she didn't even fight them. She was just glad to be away from that other place.

Ollie had just closed her eyes when she could feel the heat from the sun on her skin, and with that everyone around in the new place was up. Ollie was still a little disoriented, she was taken here so late last night she hand't had a chance to  look around. She was taken right to her room, given dinner, something to drink and she was out like a light. She could here all the other kids talking and making comments. She hadn't even met them yet, but they all knew she was there.

All of a sudden breakfast arrived in her room and fresh water. She was so excited. A meal without begging for it. She wondered if that meant she'd actually get to eat like normal. Ollie felt this wave of relief wash over her. She was inside, warm, had a bed and food, in her mind she'd won the lottery. All of a sudden it sounded like someone new walked in, because everyone got really excited.

She was excited too, although she wasn't sure why. Then out of nowhere her door opened and she could see a giant playground. A soft voice said

"Come on out girl! Go play, get some sun and have some fun"

Ollie didn't need much convincing. She was out the door running so fast she wasn't sure she was going to stop. She was amazed by how much space she had to run, and toys she had to play with. She was so happy.

Over the time, Ollie started noticing her friends would find their moms and dads. They'd get their forever home and everyone would celebrate. But for Ollie it seemed that day would never come. She'd meet people all day long. Some would come to walk her around the giant playground. Some would just help her keep her room clean and make sure she was eating.

She was always always on her best behavior, but nothing seemed to work. One day this lady started coming to visit her. The lady was so nice. She always had treats for Ollie and would make sure she got to go on long walks and received all the hugs and kisses she could give. But every night she was back in her room, alone and yearning for more.

A few more months went by. Ollie and the lady continued to get together and Ollie knew she could be herself around her. Ollie and the lady were at the end of their daily visit, but something was different. The lady wasn't taking Ollie back to her room, instead they were walking to the big house. The lady bent down, kissed Ollie on her head. She removed Ollie's collar and placed it on the table. Ollie looked up at the lady with her big brown eyes, she wasn't sure what was happening, but she knew it was good.

The lady sat down across from Ollie and placed a brand new collar around her neck, but this time there was some sort of tag on it. The lady straightened the collar and softly said

"There you go my love, a new collar with your new address. Don't want anything to happen to you"

Ollie gave the lady a big kiss. This was it, her time to leave. She was so excited. She took one last look around, all her friends were standing behind her, tails wagging goodbye. Ollie gave them a loud bark, as if she was saying

"I quit this place! Time for greener pastures."

They all understood as Ollie walked along side with the lady out of the shelter into her forever home.
